Kicking Off

September is officially here, which means it is now down to the 2 month mark until I turn 30. Yep, 30. It really isn't that big of a deal, but I have said over the last year that I want to make sure I am living the healthiest life I can as I enter into 30.

Which means, after the last 2 weeks which included quite a few dinners out AND the Minnesota State Fair, it is time to kick everything up a notch!

Monday (Labor Day), Rita and I met at the gym for a nice hour of cardio on the treadmill but today I needed to really get things going.  Ever since I went to Orange Theory Fitness this spring I have been trying to do more high intensity interval training (HIIT).

Today, Tuesday, I made sure to do at least 30 minutes of HIIT.  It wasn't anything too crazy, but figured I had to start somewhere. For anyone who has ever thought of doing HIIT, here's what I did today:

  • 4 minute warm up at 1.0 incline - Speed of your choice (4.0)
  • 4 minutes at 6.0 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 4.0 incline
  • 2 minutes at 6.5 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 4.0 incline
  • 2 minutes at 7.0 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 5.5 incline
  • 2 minutes at 7.0 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 5.0 incline
  • 2 minutes at 7.2 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 4.0 incline
  • 2 minutes at 7.2 mph
  • 2 minutes at 4.0 mph and 4.0 incline
  • 2 minutes at 7.4 mph (or as fast as you'd like)
  • 2-4 minute COOL DOWN at 3.0 - 4.0 and 1.0 incline

It's amazing how fast that 30 minutes goes by when you have some good music playing as well. I'm currently OBSESSED with the new Taylor Swift song Shake It Off, it's catchy and great for working out!
